Group Therapy
Group psychotherapy involves a group of 4-6 individuals who come together to explore a common issue or concern. These sessions are usually 1.5 hours and meet weekly.
Dr. Mager offers three types of groups:
- Process Group:
- Eating Disorder Group:
- Long Term Survivors of Sexual Assault Group:
This group is for individuals who are struggling with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, family and relationship issues. It is ideal for individuals who are motivated for therapy and who are willing to discuss different aspects of themselves and areas of distress. Participants should be willing to share what is on their minds and will be encouraged to talk about the process of interacting with other group members in order to learn more about themselves.
This group is for individuals who are struggling with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, or other patterns of dysfunctional eating. The work focuses on addressing core issues that each patient is working on in recovery. A variety of issues are addressed. Each patient in this group must also be in individual therapy, whether with Dr. Mager or another therapist.
This group is for women who have been recovering from the trauma of sexual assault for five years or longer. Sexual assault has a lasting impact in the life of a survivor. Long after the symptoms of PTSD have ameliorated, feelings of anger, concerns about sexuality and relationship difficulties may remain. The purpose of this group is to foster the ongoing process of recovery by continuing to address and cope with these longer-term issues.
